Juvederm Best Enhancement Results: Cannula or Needle?

Cannula: A Needle By Any Other Name
Considering having your under-eye area or cheeks enhanced with dermal fillers such as Juvederm? Now your treatment options have been expanded to include the cannula: a blunt, flexible long needle which enters the skin through a port or single point of entry instead of making multiple pokes.

Cannula vs. Needle
Unlike the traditional needle which is pointy and sharp, the cannula with its rounded tip pushes aside blood vessels and nerves as it traverses underneath the skin instead of piercing through them. Cannulas offer a greater degree of safety and have been found to minimize bruising and swelling.

For the patient, this means less pain and social downtime. The cannula technique is now available at most cosmetic practices and does not increase the cost of the treatment.

Which areas can be treated with a cannula?

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Lateral cheeks
  • Tear troughs
  • Orbital hollows

Keep in mind that some doctors may still prefer to use a needle for areas that require precision such as lips or chin.
