How To Save Your Complexion After NYE Overindulgence

It’s that inevitable time of year again. Christmas festivities have finally wrapped and you’re starting to make plans for New Years Eve celebrations. You think you’ve recovered. Turkey dinner, the fixings and all the wine is a thing of the past. But has your skin been keeping up? If that extra flute of champagne at midnight has left your face feeling dry, here are three tips to bring your complexion back from the brink come January 2nd.

Hydrate All Day After the NYE Party

You’ve heard about the importance of drinking water after consuming alcoholic beverages to minimize a hangover. But did you know your skin can have a hangover as well? Dry patches, lackluster complexion and dark under-eye circles are all possible from even moderate amounts of alcohol consumption.

It’s not enough to gulp a few glasses of water before going to bed. In fact, it’s best to keep the body well-hydrated starting first thing in the morning and all throughout the day. Avoid coffee and instead have a few cups of herbal tea. Drink a glass of water every hour and stock up on electrolyte drinks. Have one before going to bed instead of water to replenish lost minerals and nutrients.

Moisturize Your Face Well Before Applying Make Up

As you’re getting ready for a big night out on the town don’t forget to slather on a good, hydrating moisturizer on your face and body. Especially if you live in a cold, dry climate. Make up and foundation can sap moisture from your skin so a good base is essential.

If your skin is especially dry to begin with considering layering a hydrating cream with a skin oil for added protection. Wait a few minutes for your moisturizer to absorb fully before applying makeup. Dab off any extra cream or oil with a tissue to prevent your makeup from smudging.

Use a Post-Recovery Face Mask

If you’ve done all the above and you’re still experiencing a skin hangover then give yourself a few minutes to relax with a hydrating facial mask. You can use a store-bought mask or make one yourself with a few ingredients you have in your fridge.

Mix a little yogurt, honey and banana or avocado with a spoon until you get a thick paste. Apply the mixture all over your clean face and lie down for 15-30 minutes while the nutrients do their work. Rinse and massage your skin with an oil to seal in the moisture.
