Botox Injections: When Is Too Young to Start Age Prevention?

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This old adage still has a place in the modern world and specifically when discussing the benefits of Botox injections for facial rejuvenation. Three changes take place in our skin that make us look older: skin sagging, texture irregularities and wrinkles. Botox prevents and reverses the latter. Twin studies prove this: Botox is one treatment you can start doing in your 20’s to prevent wrinkles later in life .

Botox injections in your 20’s to prevent crow’s feet

Botox before and after photos demonstrate how the impact of crow’s feet (lines around the eyes) can age us and make us look like we haven’t slept in days. In fact, the eye area is the first to show the physical signs of aging. This can be attributed to the thin and vascular nature of the skin surrounding the eyes.

The orbicularis oculi, the muscle surrounding the eyes, can be particularly strong in some individuals, and it also happens to be responsible for creating crow’s feet which get worse over time. The simple solution is a small dose of Botox injection, between 8-10 units per eye, to prevent the muscle from contracting in that region.

Keep the upper face elevated and looking youthful

Over time the down and inward pulling effects of certain muscles can make our face close in on itself. For example, the Corrugator superclii is the muscle that pulls the eyebrows together causing the dreaded “number 11’s” that make us look angry. Procerus, the muscle that pulls the medial sides of eyebrows down and together, also contributes to frown lines.

The Frontalis is muscle that lifts the eyebrows and makes horizontal forehead lines when we look surprised. Over time this muscle can weaken, causing the eyebrows to droop and give us the appearance of looking extremely tired even if we’ve had plenty of rest. Again the solution is to start with 20-25 units of Botox in those areas when you’re in your mid-20’s to keep the brow and forehead lifted.
